Ginkgo Biloba

Causes of Diabetes
Blood sugar levels can vary for a number of reasons. The primary reason for excess glucose in the blood is a diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates. In this way, the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin can be exceeded.

There are other reasons for high levels of blood sugar. Anything that impacts the activity of the pnacreas, such as infection or cancer, is likely to affect it's ability to produce insulin. With insufficient insulin the levels of glucose in the blood will rise.

Symptoms of Diabetes
The symptoms of diabetes are intially subtle. Increased frequency of urination, together with a resultant higher level of thirst is often the first symptom. Ultimately diabetes starts to affect the peripheral circulation, resulting in poor wound healing and skin ulcers on the toes and fingers. Eventually diabetes causes retinopathy and possibly blindness  through the damage to the capillaries in the retina.

Treatment for Diabetes
Change of diet is the most important aspect of treating diabetes. Avoid foods with high levels of  refined carbohydrates such as sugar, honey, jam and anything with white flour. Don't let yourself go hungry or you'll be tempted to grab the nearest available snack.
